Cast When Strikes

The following spells will be cast whenever the item strikes its target. This means it won't work on anything other than weapons (and maybe gauntlets in Hand-to-Hand). Comments are the spell description from the game manual plus any personal observations from using the effects.

Paralysis

"Medium level chance of immobilizing the target for the duration of the spell." Paralyzed targets are great opportunities to develop pickpocketing skills. Paralyzed targets are also moved backwards each time you strike them in melee. You'll have to move forward to re-engage them.

Hand of Sleep

"Destroys stamina from a target with a successful strike." Not terribly effective.

Vampiric Touch

"Transfers health from a trarget to the caster by touch." Not as effective as "Vampiric Effect" (see the "Other Powers" table)

Magica Leech

"Transfers inherent magica energy from a target to the caster on a successful strike." Doesn't work if the target has no magica (animals, some undead, some humanoids). Also causes the item to wear out faster for little gain. Best used as a spell and not as an item power. If you must have this effect, go get the Mace of Molag Baal.

Hand of Decay

"Low to medium-level chance of disintigrating a target with a successful strike." Much cheaper than "Sphere of Negation", but lower chances of success, too. Spell description says it's a better chance of success than the Sphere. Go figure.

Wildfire

"Fires a ball of flame at a single target, infliciting medium-level damage and then low-level damage as the fire continues to burn." Not terribly effective against fire-based critters and continuous damage is iffy, anyway.

Ice Storm

"Fires a ball of frost which explodes on contact, delivering medium-level damage to all within range." Caster is within range when the spell goes off in this mode. Not terribly effective against cold-based critters. Even less effective as your weapon skills and Strength increase since it takes fewer swats to kill the critters. Very bad news if you put this into a melee weapon as this is an area-effect spell.

Fire Storm

"Creates a fiery aura around caster, delivering medium-level damage to all within its boundaries." Not terribly effective against fire-based critters. Even less effective as your weapon skills and Strength increase since it takes fewer swats to kill the critters. Not very bright to put this into a melee weapon.

Ice Bolt

"Fires a ball of frost which inflicts medium- to high-level damage to a single target."

Wizard's Fire

"Fires a ball of flame at a single target, inflicting low-to medium-level damage."

Sphere of Negation

"Creates a sphere around the caster which may disintegrate any sentient form trapped in its radius." An expensive enchantment and one which is best NOT used on a weapon since it will be cast each time the weapon strikes and, consequently, wear out the item faster.

Energy Leech

"Transfers stamina from target to caster with a successful strike." Handy when you need to avoid resting. Best if combined with another effect or used in a small weapon which can be quickly equipped and unequipped.
